Super Simple Banana Smoothie Recipe

You don’t need to spend money on prepackaged smoothie mixes, because making a smoothie is super simple. It takes a minimum of three ingredients plus ice and you can make a personal size smoothie or a blender jug full to share.  You don’t even need ice cream and sugar is purely optional.  I actually prefer it without any sweetening.

The secret to making a super simple banana smoothie is the banana – that’s essential to making it thick and delicious.  I like to use a banana that is semi-ripe and still firm.  You can also add chocolate syrup or fruit to make your own custom smoothie blends.

Blend the following ingredients in a blender (with an ice blending blade):

  • 1 Banana
  • 4-6 oz of Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 5-6 Ice cubes

For a personal blender, slice the banana for easier blending and use smaller ice cubes.

To double the recipe in a large blender jug, the one banana is still sufficient – just break it up in sections, add more milk and ice.

Pulse to blend a few seconds till the ice is crushed but not gone and smoothie is thick.

Smoothie Variations:

  • Any milk works well including whole, 2%, skim, lactose-reduced
  • Add 1 or 2 pieces of frozen fruit (smoothie featured had 2 raspberries and 1 blackberry)
  • Add a squirt of chocolate syrup
  • Add a little yogurt for a yummy taste

You can never go with a banana smoothie. I recommend adding some peanut butter for that extra fiber and protein! Plus peanut butter compliments banana extremely well! Cheers!
